Excess Estrogen

Excess Estrogen is an imbalance that typically occurs when the body has higher levels ofestrogen than normal. It may also happen when levels of estrogen are normal, but still higher than those of progesterone in the women’s body. Estrogen itself is a female hormone that affects all female sexual organs, including the ovaries, cervix, fallopian tubes, vagina and breasts and an imbalance of it can cause many symptoms to occur. The balance of woman's hormones is a very delicate biologic process; and multiple causes, such as aging, environmental factors or stress, may result in the process being thrown off balance. Due to the fact that Excess Estrogen has two main ways of presenting itself (high estrogen or low progesterone),

Menopause

Menopause is a naturally occurring biologic process in women.  It is defined as the permanent end of menses and fertility occurring 12 twelve months after a patients last menstruation.  This happens when the female’s ovaries stop producing eggs and her body produces fewer hormones (estrogen and progesterone).  Menstrual periods generally become either more closely or more widely spaced, but may even come to a sudden stop.  An irregularity in menstrual cycles can occur for one to three years.  The onset typically occurs between the ages of 45 and 55.  Even though it is a natural process and not a medical illness, it still can have dramatic effects on a women’s mental and physical health.   These effects vary dramatically from one patient to another and are caused by the changes in the estrogen and progesterone.

Calluses are thickened areas of skin that are formed from repetitive friction or pressure.  They commonly appear as small areas of slightly whitened or yellowish colored skin.  Calluses are commonly formed as a protective layer on the skin for areas that are frequently in contact with other surfaces while walking, running, lifting, working, etc.   Most times they will develop on the hands or feet, especially in people who wear tight fitting shoes for long periods of time or engage in a lot of repetitive motions while at work.

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is a relatively newer approach to treating symptoms of menopause and other hormone imbalances that can occur in the body.  Females produce several different types of estrogen as well as progesterone throughout the course of their lives.  As a person ages, the natural level of hormones in the body will decrease or can become otherwise imbalanced.  For a woman going through menopause or perimenopause (the time period when a woman is still menstruating occasionally but the cycles are erratic and uneven), these hormone imbalances can cause symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness.

Topical Nail Fungus

Topical nail fungus is a very common infection of either the fingernails or toenails.  This occurs when a person has been exposed to a fungal organism that their immune system was not able to fight off.  These infections generally occur more often on toenails than fingernails because fungi are better able to survive in warm, dark, moist environments – such as on the feet of someone who engages in strenuous exercise or wears wet shoes for a long period of time.  Topical nail fungus usually starts out as a small yellow or cloudy-looking spot on the affected nail.
